HostJane will at no cost migrate your entire old WordPress site to your new, uber-fast WPjane server. Depending on our workload it’s usually done within 5 hours. Just complete our secure form and get the job done for you.

If you don’t want to wait for our team to move you, or you want to do it yourself, HostJane recommends All-in-One WP Migration by ServMask, Inc. to migrate WordPress sites to WPjane. This plugin has over 1 million+ uses and has been tested on Ubuntu, the linux distribution that your WPjane server uses.

IMPORTANT: Ensure your new WPjane server is set up before starting with any migration

Before you migrate your old WordPress site, ensure you have set up your new WPjane server by following our simple WordPress set up tutorial. The new WordPress installation should be reachable in the browser at an IP address, for example: 123.456.789.1

For a seamless transfer, hold off updating your website’s DNS to your new WPjane server until after you’ve completed a successful site migration from your old WordPress host with the All-in-One WP Migration plugin as set out below.

This includes checking your new WPjane site is working in desktops, tablets, and mobile browsers before you point or change your domain’s A-record.

Set up your SSL certificate

All WPjane servers include FREE SSL, which is available for free installation after you’ve finished pointing your domain to your server’s A-record.

Make sure you’ve waited 24-72 hours for your DNS to propagate around the world before you ask for your SSL to be installed.

Developer’s Tutorial on using All-in-One WP Migration

The beauty of ServMask’s plugin is that it is so simple to use, just be careful with which import/export options you choose as it can affect your WordPress database.

Also, ensure you update the permalinks after importing. We’ve done a step-by-step walkthrough below on how to use ServMask’s fantastic migration plugin.

1. Export your old WordPress website

First, you need to login to your old WordPress host by going to /wp-admin/ or /wp-login.php/ at your existing site and accessing the WordPress backend.

Navigate to Plugins > Add Plugin

Type in All-in-One WP Migration until the ServMask plugin comes up.

Press Install > Activate

In the left-hand WordPress dashboard, you should see the All-in-One WP Migration tool appear.

Go to All-in-One WP Migration > Export

Choose File which will export your entire WordPress site as a .wpress file.

Unless you’re an experienced WP user, we don’t recommend adding any settings or changing any of the default Advanced Settings which will impact upon the resulting MySQL database that you import into your new WPjane server.

You’ll see a few system messages, followed by the download button.

The larger your website is, the more time it may take to archive the database.

Eventually you’ll see a flashing green Download LocalHost button.

Click Download to export your WordPress site as a .wpress file to your local computer.

2. Import your old WordPress website into your new WPjane server

We assume you have already set up your WPjane server so the new WordPress site is reachable in the browser.

In a new browser window, login to your new WPjane site’s /wp-admin/ dashboard area.

If you have not propagated your domain, it should look like: https://123.456.789.1/wp-admin/ and you will get the SSL security warnings as the website will still be using a self-signed SSL (until your free SSL certificate gets installed).

If you have fully propagated your domain, your WordPress dashboard URL will resemble, http://[Your_Domain.TLD]/wp-admin/

Install All-in-One WP Migration by navigating to Plugins > Add Plugin in your new WordPress site, on your WPjane server.

Exactly as above, type in All-in-One WP Migration until the ServMask plugin comes up.

Again, press Install > Activate

In the left-hand WordPress dashboard, you should see the All-in-One WP Migration tool appear.

As you want to import your old site to your new website, choose Import in the plugin’s dashboard menu.

The All-in-One WP Migration import screen will appear.

Select File from the Import dropdown.

Find the localhost.wpress file that you exported from your old host to your computer, and upload it at the prompt.

This can take time depending on your ISP’s speed and how big your old website was, so be prepared to wait up to 1 hour or more for the upload to finish.

Do not close your browser while the file upload is in progress.

Upon completion you will get a warning message advising that you are about to overwrite ALL file and database data on your new WPjane server. You are replacing your WPjane server’s files with a perfect copy of your old website.

Click Proceed to continue the transfer process.

Be warned this overwriting is not a reversible process. If you have already started building your new website on your WPjane server and don’t wish to overwrite that data, you should use the backup feature in All-in-One migration to take a copy before you import your old site’s wpress file.

Click Permalink Settings

Once the import has finished, you will be logged out of the new site.

You will now need to log back into your new WPjane server using your old site’s /wp-admin/ username and password credentials.

This is because when you imported the data from your old site with the .wpress file, it also overwrites your WordPress website’s MySQL database where usernames and password credentials are stored.

We recommend updating the username and password to your new site, use HostJane’s strong password generator to create a password longer than 16 characters that even hackers can’t manipulate.

Finally, in Permalink Settings, click Save Changes once, and then again until the Permalink structure has updated TWICE.

Your new WordPress site should have been successfully imported!

Click Visit Site in the top left dropdown to visit your new Website.

If everything has gone well, you should see your old WordPress site on your new WPjane server. Congratulations!

Other tips to note:

Keep in mind that if you want to backup your WPjane server, you can login to My HostJane and go to Snapshots in your WPjane server’s dashboard to take a copy of the entire server before you import the .wpress file, so you can restore by contacting support (admin fee applies), and you won’t lose any data.

Finally, if you’re comfortable using a command line program like WP-CLI, ServMask’s All-in-One WP migration plugin can be handled from that interface.
